Rooted in Christian, gospel values, St Elizabeth’s exists to offer vulnerable people individually designed education, care and support services that maximise their opportunities to “live life to the full”.
Based across 60 acres of beautiful countryside, St Elizabeth's is a national charity supporting children and adults of all ages with epilepsy and other complex medical conditions, the severity of which impacts upon their health, social, behaviour, learning and emotional development.
Over the past 118 years, St Elizabeth's has grown and developed to comprise a non-maintained special School for both boarders and day students, a specialist Further Education College, domiciliary care for College learners, residential care with nursing for 102 adults across 13 purpose built bungalows, a comprehensive Day Opportunities programme for residents and day clients and 24 hour health provision provided by specialist nurses and therapists.
The charity was previously one of the charitable works of the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross of Liège (“the Congregation”), a Catholic religious congregation, founded in 1833 in Liège, Belgium. On 1st October 2018, St Elizabeth's Centre became a charity in it's own right, continuing the wonderful work established by the Daughters of the Cross of Liège over 100 years ago.
Our Board of Trustees meet five times a year and advise the Strategic Leadership Team on all aspects of the Centre's strategic direction and monitoring of our work.
In addition, there is a Home Advisory Committee and a Board of School and College Governors to advise on the operation of the Adult Care Services, School and College respectively.
Our Centre-wide Strategic Leadership Team undertake the routine day-to-day management of over 600 multi-disciplinary staff at St Elizabeth's and of the services they deliver such as Care, Domestics, Maintenance, HR, Fundraising and more!
