Role Details

We’re passionate about providing the best care for our patients. Our mortality rates are among the lowest in the country and we are the only hospital in England to offer enhanced recovery for spinal patients. In 2014, we won the NHS Employers' Compassion in Practice Award.

  • We believe in giving our staff a voice about how we continually improve our services.
  • We strive to make our hospitals a great place for our 4,500 staff and our volunteers to work.
  • We have a talented and committed team. Each month, we take time to recognise a member of staff who has gone the extra mile in our ‘Celebrating Excellence’ staff award.
  • We offer excellent career opportunities, and a great range of benefits, training and development from our unique leadership programme to providing funding and support for staff to complete university courses.
  • We are investing in our staff and hospitals. We have begun a major transformation programme to ensure we can deliver the highest quality care in the future.

Hertfordshire is a great place to live. Our hospitals are on the doorstep of London, with excellent schools, award-winning parks, and great recreational facilities – all surrounded by beautiful countryside.

West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust is a large acute trust providing hospital services to around half a million people living in Hertfordshire, north London and further afield. We run services across three hospitals at Watford, St Albans and Hemel Hempstead. We strive to provide consistently good, safe care in a friendly, listening and informative way, as and when people need and want it and always with dignity and respect.

In partnership with Health Education England (HEE), the Emergency Medicine International Training (EMIT) Programme aims to recruit International doctors with an Emergency Medicine background to complement our existing trainees, consultants and specialty doctors. Each post will be fully integrated within a specialty team in Addenbrookes, supporting the high-quality provision of patient care in Emergency Departments.

These posts will provide excellent training and service opportunities for doctors with varying career aspirations. The programme is fully endorsed to give international doctors established UK based training with a view to them taking these skills back to their home countries.

The EMIT Programme is the only UK Government approved international recruitment Programme for Doctors working within NHS hospitals across England. The Global Engagement (GE) Directorate, through the Department of Health and Social Care, is committed to ensuring ethical recruitment practices operate within the NHS by adhering to the UK Code of Practice (CoP) for international recruitment.

The EMIT Programme will assist applicants with; General Medical Council (GMC) registration, visa application and a comprehensive programme of pastoral care, including cultural sensitivities via inductions prior to and on arrival within the UK. The EMIT Programme aims to provide an opportunity to enhance and add to candidates existing skills whilst working within the NHS.
